Sorrento is the birthplace of the poet Torquato Tasso, born in 1544. A gentle town, land of colours and Sirens, town of citrus groves.
Sorrento hosts the popular major Museo Correale di Terranova that has important evidence and proofs of the town’s history. Since the 18th century, Sorrento has become famous for the artisanal tradition of intarsia wood inlaying. You can see some of the greatest examples of this art at the Museo Bottega della Tarsia Lignea located in an ancient building dating back to the 18th century in the inner city.
Sorrento also hosts a number of cultural, music and cinema events.
A special local product is limoncello, a digestif made from the amazing Sorrento lemons.
