Herculaneum is well known throughout the world for the ruins of its Roman town. Legend has it that Hercules founded Herculaneum. The town was then destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79. Its ruins along with Pompeii and Oplontis excavations are listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
The route that goes from Corso Resina to the ruins gets to Torre del Greco and is called “Golden Mile” due to the wonderful villas of the 18th century lined up by its sides.
